Mrs Bhide is heading the Mumbai Metro Line 3 (MML-3) which is 33.5 km long fully underground corridor with 27 stations (26 underground & 1 at grade) connecting Colaba to SEEPZ via BKC is a part of “Mumbai Metro Master Plan” covering 9 corridors with 153 kms to be implemented in three phases. The 33.5 km long corridor is India’s longest and cities first fully underground corridor running across Colaba to SEEPZ connecting the presently unconnected parts of the city.
This mammoth project in a bustling city such as Mumbai is being headed by a competent and a composed woman. Meet Ashwini Bhide, IAS officer who has held leadership positions for the past 20 years in the capacity of Chief Executive Officer in Zila Parishad, Addl. Divisional commissioner, Joint Secretary to Governor of Maharashtra, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner in MMRDA and Secretary in School Education and Sports.
Metro project is humungous by all standards. Every aspect is critical and there are thousands of decisions that need to be taken a macro and micro level. Huge budgets, thousands of people involved in the project in different capacities, challenges of laying out the Metro in a city such as Mumbai, seasonal disturbances, deadlines for completion, ensuring safety while erecting…this list is endless and it is relentless work day in and day out.
To sustain in this intense pressure requires nerves of steel.

What am I known for?
I am known to be a positive and pro-active administrator who can deliver. I am also known as a team leader who can extract the best of her team members by creating a very healthy and professional work environment.
The one advise I would give to my younger self on professional and personal front.
Be patient and think before you react. Do not take decisions with an agitated mind.
A tough decision that I needed to take as a Leader and its impact on me.
Not to deviate from the basic principles of propriety and transparency even when there was pressure to do so. Not succumbing to unethical pressure does generate some internal stress but the real satisfaction of not deviating from the right path outweighs this temporary stress.

What has been the biggest challenge/s at work and what did you learn from it?
Being in public life and handling high profile projects entail dealing with multiple challenges on daily basis. I consider each challenge as an opportunity to learn new things and to reinvent myself with more maturity and stability of mind.
An accomplishment you are proud of?
There are many. But if only one is to be named then I would say Mumbai Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ), the fully underground Metro Corridor of Mumbai leading from a non-starter to its current status overcoming colossal challenges on the way is something which I am very proud of.
अश्विनी भिडे
अश्विनी भिडे या १९९५ च्या बॅचच्या आयएएस अधिकारी आहेत. मुंबई मेट्रो रेल काॅर्पोरेशनच्या व्यवस्थापकीय संचालक म्हणून त्या कार्यरत आहेत. ३३.५ किलोमीटर लांबीच्या तिसऱ्या भूयारी मार्गावरील, २७ स्टेशन्स असलेल्या कुलाबा ते सिप्झ व्हाया बीकेसी या महत्वाकांक्षी प्रकल्पाच्या प्रमुख म्हणून त्या काम पहात आहेत. मुंबई मेट्रो मास्टर प्लान मधील हा सर्वात महत्वाचा भाग असून यामध्ये १५३ किलोमीटरच्या ९ काॅरिडाॅर्सचा समावेश आहे. हे काम तीन टप्प्यांत पूर्ण होणं नियोजित आहे. अश्विनी भिडे यांच्या नेतृत्वाखाली तयार होणारा हा ३३.५ किलोमीटरचा काॅरिडाॅर देशातील सर्वात मोठा मेट्रो काॅरिडाॅर ठरणार आहे. गेली २० वर्ष महाराष्ट्रातल्या अनेक महत्वाच्या पदांवर प्रशासकीय अधिकारी म्हणून कार्यरत आहेत. मुंबई सारख्या घड्याळाच्या काट्यावर धावणाऱ्या देशातल्या एका महत्वाच्या शहरातला मेट्रो सारखा महत्वाचा प्रकल्प अश्विनी भिडे सांभाळत असल्यामुळेच त्यांचा समावेश #9women9days कॅंपेनमध्ये करणं ही आनंद आणि अभिमानाची गोष्ट आहे.
मी कशासाठी ओळखली जाते?
सकारात्मक विचार आणि स्वयंप्रेरणेतून काम करत उत्तम रिझल्ट्स देण्यासाठी मी ओळखली जाते. टीम लीडर म्हणून काम करताना टीम मधल्या प्रत्येक व्यक्तीची गुणवत्ता हेरुन त्यांच्याकडून संपूर्ण क्षमतेनं काम करण्यासाठी उत्तम वातावरण निर्माण करणं ही माझी ओळख आहे.
प्रोफेशनल आणि पर्सनल आयुष्याबाबत माझ्या ज्युनियर्सना माझा सल्ला
शांत राहा आणि कुठल्याही गोष्टीवर रिऍक्ट होण्याआधी पुन्हा विचार करा. संभ्रम वाटत असेल तेव्हा कुठलाही निर्णय घेऊ नका.
मी घेतलेला सगळ्यात अवघड निर्णय आणि त्याचे माझ्यावर झालेले परिणाम
औचित्य आणि पारदर्शकतेला धक्का लागेल असं काही स्वत:च्या तत्वांना मुरड घालून मी करावं अशा अपेक्षा आणि त्यासाठी दबाव असताना सुद्धा मी माझ्या तत्वांशी फारकत घेतली नाही. कामाच्या ठिकाणी असलेल्या दबावाला बळी न पडण्यातून अनेकदा आपल्यावर खूप ताण येतो, पण आपण तडजोड केलेली नाही याचं समाधान कितीतरी मोठं असतं!

कामातील सर्वात मोठी आव्हानं, त्यातून मिळालेला धडा
सार्वजनिक आयुष्याचा भाग असणं आणि महत्वाकांक्षी प्रकल्पांची जबाबदारी पेलणं यातून रोज नवीन आव्हानं समोर येतात. पण प्रत्येक आव्हान हे नवीन काही तरी शिकायची संधी आहे असं मी मानते त्यामुळे आव्हानं पेलायला नवीन समज माझी मलाच मिळते.
तुमच्या कोणत्या यशाचा तुम्हाला अभिमान वाटतो?
खरं तर अनेक आहेत, पण एकाच गोष्टीचा उल्लेख करायचा असेल तर मुंबई मेट्रो तिसऱ्या मार्गिकेचा उल्लेख मी करेन. मुंबई मेट्रो मार्गातला सगळ्यात महत्वाचा, सर्वात लांब भूयारी टप्पा शुन्यातून काम सुरु करुन सद्यस्थितीपर्यंत यशस्वीपणे घेऊन येणं हे खरोखरंच खूप आव्हानात्मक होतं, ते पेलू शकले याचं समाधान खूप मोठं आहे!
