‘9 women 9 Days’ या उपक्रमाबद्दल सदिच्छा व्यक्त करण्यासाठी सुप्रसिद्ध दिग्दर्शक चंद्रकांत कुलकर्णी यांनी व्यक्त केलेले मनोगत – नवरात्रीनिमित्त ‘स्त्री शक्तीला’, ‘स्त्री कर्तुत्वाला’ गौरवीत करणारा हा उपक्रम अतिशय स्तुत्य आहे. स्त्रीमुक्ती, स्त्री शिक्षण, विधवा पुनर्विवाह, स्त्री सबलीकरणावर ठोस भूमिका घेऊन कार्य करत राहणारे विचारवंत ज्या महाराष्ट्रात घडून गेले त्या महाराष्ट्रात मी घडलो याचा मला अभिमान आहे. महाविद्यालयीन जीवनापासूनच विविध चळवळींशी संलग्न असल्यामुळे, रझिया पटेल, अनघा संजीव, मंगल खिंवसरा यांसारख्या सामाजिक कार्यकर्त्यांसोबत काम केल्यामुळे स्त्री मुक्ती ते स्त्री पुरुष समानता हे स्थित्यंतर, आंतरजातीय विवाह, सामाजिक विषमता आदी विषय एक पत्रकार म्हणून, रंगकर्मी म्हणून जवळून अनुभवता आले आणि हीच गेल्या तीन ते चार दशकांमधील बदललेली स्त्री माझ्या नाटकांमधून प्रतिबिंबित झाली. प्रशांत दळवी लिखित ‘चारचौघी’, ‘ध्यानीमनी’, ‘चाहूल’ या नाटकांमधून दाखवल्या गेलेल्या स्त्रीचा प्रवास हा पारंपारिक चौकटी तोडत स्वतःच्या आर्थिक स्वातंत्र्यासाठी बाहेर पडलेली ‘ती’ ते स्वतःच्या शोधात बाहेर पडलेली ‘ती’ असा झालेला दिसतो. ‘वाडा चिरेबंदी’ ‘मग्न तळ्याकाठी’ ‘युगान्त’ या नाटकांमधील स्त्रिया कोणत्याही सहनशीलतेचे आवरण न घेता स्वतःची तडफड सक्षमपणे व्यक्त करतात. आज मी जो काही घडलो आहे त्याचे सगळे श्रेय मी माझ्या आयुष्यातील प्रथम स्त्रीला म्हणजेच माझ्या आईला देतो. कमी शिकलेली, म्हणजे अगदी नवऱ्यालादेखील लग्नात पहिल्यांदाच बघितलंय अशी असणारी ती खूप दूरदृष्टीने विचार करणारी आहे. कुटुंबनियोजन, शिक्षणाचे महत्व तिला त्या काळात पटले होते.
