Television industry is a tricky business! Here every day is a challenge to gain the TRP’s and eyeballs to maintain the lead position of a program and a channel. It needs guts, instinct and deep conviction to push ahead and make things happen. Neelima has been one of the most prominent anchors in Marathi entertainment and television news industry. She has the chutzpah! She has been effective and has established a benchmark with her style of working.
Why did you choose Television ?
I think television chose me because I never intend to work in television. I was doing experimental theatre in Pune and I was happy doing that. Eventually just to enter in Mumbai, I tried my luck for anchor interviews at Star Majha. Got selected and now I m still here in media from past 8 and half years. But of course I am enjoying every bit of it. Trying to explore and experiment here as well.
It is said that you require a nose for news. Is that so?
Yes! You do require it, but it’s not always necessary to put nose in everything around you. When you have enough networking, things come to you and you don’t always need to look for it. Be sane and be wise enough to recognize which is real news and which is fake news.
Who gave you the best piece of advice till date?
I don’t seek for advice from people. I learn from life situations and my past. But fortunately I have a strong friend circle and my family who believes in my every step.
Who or what inspires you?
Rebels! Those whose path has always been hard enough have inspired me. My path was never easy. Behind all this glitter and glamour there is a lot of hard work and patience. Mostly sports Icons inspire. Currently Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu are my icons. You have interviewed the famous and glamorous stars of Bollywood and Marathi entertainment industry.
Who has left the most impact on you?
Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, Richa Chaddha…list is long. But as in impact, I have a deep impact of Smita Patil as a person and as a great actress. I wish I had interviewed her. Dream unfulfilled.
Where is Neelima going to be 5 years from now ?
Hahaha… I don’t know what I will be doing next month. My life is always open to surprises as I have not decided what I am now. But definitely apart from my work, I will be doing something for gender equality and women rights for sure.
You’ve always been such a leading example to us.
Very proud of you! Keep inspiring!
