1. What is your big dream?
The big vision is to create a legacy for the brand “Nivedita Saboo Couture” that lives beyond the lifetimes and dreams of its founders. To make sure that the brand becomes a beautiful umbrella that supports and envelopes beautifully designed creations that will amaze connoisseurs globally.
Marking fifteen years as a fashion house this year, Nivedita Saboo Couture’s aim has always been to push boundaries of premium quality couture with its constant innovation, heritage techniques, contemporary cuts and silhouettes, impeccable styling and every other aspect of design.
Our design sensibilities have evolved immensely & quite naturally whilst progressively catering to a much larger demographic around the world. We want to showcase the intricacy of Indian surface ornamentation techniques combined with immaculate tailoring and international cuts, which is the true essence of our label.
Supporting and sustaining Indian textiles and giving our artisans a platform to develop, innovate, thrive and excel is also something very close to my heart and a part of Nivedita Saboo Couture’s vision of being a global fashion brand with an Indian soul.
2. Fashion is a serious business. How challenging has it been to be an entrepreneur and a creator?
Being a creative individual, to get myself involved in the business of accounting, administration, HR and logistics is definitely a challenge.
Setting up two stores in Pune and a now brand new store on Juhu Tara Road, Mumbai along with self-sustaining units of over 100 in-house skilled craftsmen and technicians in Pune and Mumbai, everyday entails decisions that range from production, creation, media to operations, meetings, accounts, customers, events and so much more.
Being a creative entrepreneur is constant learning curve in all avenues and to run the fashion house successfully, I’ve realized that it’s imperative to be involved at a micro level during setting up a new project and on a macro level at later stages while delegating responsibilities to my carefully selected core team who I am blessed to have. Taking timely decisions is also imperative in the business of fashion.
The challenges definitely come with the territory but the gumption to conquer those challenges is truly what I live for.
3. What has been the turning point that has propelled your growth?
From getting accolades at Cannes Film Festival to showcasing at Korea, Paris, Hong Kong and most recently at London Fashion Week to designing for Bollywood celebrities such as Akshay Kumar, Sushant Singh Rajput, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jacueline Fernandez, Lisa Haydon, Randeep Hooda, Karishma Kapoor, Neha Dhupia and more to being fashion director to Mr. World Rohit Khandelwal and last but not the , all our customers who make Nivedita Saboo Couture a part of their memories have brought us where we are today!
Consistently working towards realizing my vision of being a premium fashion house that showcases exceptional womenswear and menswear couture and giving my clients a personalized and a subliminal experience of luxury couture, is truly the greatest yardstick for Nivedita Saboo Couture that we work towards achieving everyday!
4. How important shall collaborations be in times to come for fashion? (Collaborating with fashion houses/ celebrities etc.)
As artists, the call to showcase our vision and what we believe in, is extremely strong & powerful and when we find another artist or a label that resonates with that vision, it’s truly double the magic! Collaborating with other fashion houses, celebrities and any other labels whose goals and dreams are in line with yours and associating with each other brings out a dimension which is distinct in itself yet a part of each brands bigger picture, it’s a win-win situation for both!
5. What/ who has been your biggest inspiration?
My mother is my biggest inspiration. She’s always been my pillar of strength and my rock solid foundation in all that I do. From the time Nivedita Saboo Couture was incepted up until now, she’s been a touch-stone of sorts to all my collections and I feel truly blessed to have her as someone whose indispensible pool of knowledge, wisdom and experience I can be a part of and vice-versa.
